Tina has grown this summer. Now she's taller than her third-grade classmates...and she doesn't like it one bit! What's so great about being tall anyway? Tina's friends help her discover some terrific things about being tall, and learn math comparison terms (tall, taller, tallest; low, lower, lowest, and so on) along the way. Order on Amazon or go to Kane Press at www.kanepress.com; you'll find it in their Math Matters section.
"If you're interested in wonderful books for wonderful children, this is the place to be. ...[where] we believe that literacy and love of learning are gifts all children deserve." are the opening lines of donnamariebooks.com and we couldn't agree more. Donna Marie (Pitino) Merritt gives us books that build self-esteem and teach a math or science concept at the same time. They are created especially for young children, pre-K to grade 3.
Mrs. Merritt has lived in Watertown, CT for the past 27 years and is the author of 15 children's books. |

Adventures in Ocean Exploration, From the discovery of the Titanic to the search for Noah's flood by Robert D. Ballard with Malcolm McConnell
A Robert Ballard has pursued a dual career as a marine scientist and a pioneering discoverer, locating scores of wrecks all over the world, including the Titanic and the battleship Bismarck. In this lavishly illustrated chronicle, he uses his most exciting dives as starting points for an odyssey through time, tracing the evolution of ships and navigation from the first reed boats to the nuclear submarines of today. Ballard tells of plunging 12,000 feet to the floor of the Atlantic and finding new life in the superheated water around active volcanoes on the Pacific Seabed. Ballard uses high-end technology and an unmanned submersible to view the Titanic's ghostly hull. |

On the Bottom, by Commander Edward Ellsberg
"On the evening of September 25, 1925 the U.S. Navy Submarine S-51 was rammed by the steamship SS City of Rome in open seas off Block Island, Rhode Island, and sank in 132 feet of water, with the loss of 33 lives.
This disaster evoked such a storm of popular indignation against the Navy Department that something had to be done. It was felt that at all costs a determined attempt must be made to raise the S-51, if only to restore public confidence. No vessel had ever been raised from such a depth, and to the technical mind the thing was impossible. . . " |
