What is Labor Day?
Labor Day was created to celebrate the American worker. Now a national holiday, Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September. The first Labor Day was observed by New York City on September 5, 1882, a Tuesday not a Monday. Traditionally, Labor Day marks the end of summer and is celebrated by parades, picnicking and outdoor activities.
