With a total area of almost 10,000,000 sq km, Canada is the second largest country in the world, but it has the world's longest coastline, 202,080 km. A young and relatively undeveloped nation, Canada has preserved vast tracts of wilderness parkland to protect natural heritage habitats and species.

Wapusk National Park of Canada:
Wapusk means "White Bear" in Cree. Appropiately named, the park protects one of the world's largest known polar bear maternity denning areas. It includes a large part of the Hudson James Lowlands, a sub-arctic region bordering Hudson Bay that is mostly muskeg and wet peatlands. It is one of the wildest and most remote of Canadian landscapes.

Wapusk: At a Glance:
Hugs the northern coastal edge of Manitoba, and encompasses the largest polar bear denning area seen on the planet. Wapusk is also home to other major arctic predators, such as lynx, wolverine, arctic fox and red fox.

Riding Mountain National Park:
Riding Mountain is located on the Manitoba Escarpment in south-central Manitoba, near the geographical centre of Canada, a 2978 square kilometre island of forest rising out of a sea of farmland.

Riding Mountain National Park of Canada:
Situated amidst a sea of agricultural land, Riding Mountain rises dramatically from the prairie landscape. Forming part of the Manitoba Escarpment, this "island" reserve protects a wide variety of wildlife and vegetation areas. Agassiz Tower overlooks a panoramic view of prairies stretching out to the north.

Churn Creek Provincial Park:
Located approximately 60 kilometres southeast of Williams Lake at the confluence of the Chilcotin and Fraser rivers in the south central region of British Columbia.

Churn Creek Protected Area:
One of five large protected areas across BC that has been established primarily for the conservation of grassland ecosystems - containing some of the rarest ecosystems - low, middle and high elevation bunchgrass grasslands.

Glacier National Park:
Columbia Mountains Natural Region of Canada. Encompasses part of the Selkirks and a small portion of the Purcell Ranges along the southeastern border of British Columbia. It is classified into four life zones - alpine tundra, alpine meadows, sub-alpine forest and interior rainforest. There are more than 400 glaciers pouring over the mountaintops, covering over 12% of the total park area with ice.

Glacier National Park of Canada:
Protects a portion of the Columbia Mountains Natural Region, in the interior wet belt of British Columbia. Protects unique stands of old-growth cedar and hemlock and critical habitat for threatened and endangered wildlife species such as the mountain caribou, mountain goat and grizzly bear.

Gwaii Haanas National Park:
Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site occupies 1470 square km or about 15% of The Queen Charlotte Islands. Located about 100 kilometres off the British Columbia mainland it includes 138 islands, stretching from Tasu Sound south to Cape St. James.

Yoho National Park:
Nestled on the Rockies' western flanks and bordered on the east by Kootenay (at the British Columbia-Alberta border) and Banff national parks. High mountain country, with a landscape of deep forests, icy glaciers, wild rivers, pure lakes and abundance of wildlife is easily observed from the Trans-Canada Highway which bisects the park from east to west.
