To obtain an open burning permit, contact the Burning Official in your town.

Griswold

This is a volunteer organization consisting of approximately 45 members trained in various levels of firefighting, emergency medical treatment, hazardous materials, etc. Griswold Volunteer Fire Department responds to over 400 calls each year.

Its members are trained in advanced levels of firefighting, EMS, hazardous materials, etc. The department is located in the 1st district of the town of Griswold. Monroe

Monroe Fire Department services are provided by three 100% Volunteer fire departments. Each fire department maintains two fire stations and has a staff of certified State of Connecticut Firefighters. Although there are three separate fire districts in Town (Stepney - Monroe - Stevenson) in resident's time of need the three companies often work as one. Fire Marshals Office. Monroe is located approximately 11 miles north of Bridgeport, Connecticut and 60 miles northeast of New York City.

Stepney Volunteer Fire Company: One of three fire companies in the Town of Monroe, located about 10 miles north of Bridgeport, CT. Response area consists of 26 square miles and a population of over 20,000. Operating from 2 stations using four engines, a truck, a heavy rescue, a squad and a chief's vehicle. Currently, the only Ladder Company in the Town of Monroe. The fire company's primary coverage area includes the following sections of Monroe: Stepney, Stevenson and Monroe Center.

Norwich

Norwich Fire Department, 10 North Thames Street, Norwich CT 06360, 860-892-6085, Norwich City Fire Marshal, (860) 887-2780. Provides fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue services utilizing full-time firefighters. Station 1 (Headquarters) was built in 1995, and houses two staffed engines and one tower ladder.

Station 2: Greeneville, 446 North Main Street, Norwich CT. 06360. Built in the 1880's and remodeled in 1896, Station 2 houses one staffed engine. Greeneville's fire house is believed to be the oldest career fire house still in operation in the State of Connecticut. In 2004-2005 the near 120 year old station received updates and repairs.

Stamford

The City of Stamford CT is 39.9 square miles in size, located approximately 35 miles East of New York City on the shores of Long Island Sound extending North to the New York State border. Stamford has a population of over 120,000 residents which increases by over 50,000 people daily as they commute into Stamford to work. The services of the Stamford Fire and Rescue Department under the control of the Chief are limited to the City Fire Service District, except in the case of an emergency. The areas of Stamford that are not covered by the Stamford Fire & Rescue Department are served by the volunteer departments which have come to be called "The Big Five".

Weston

Weston Volunteer Fire Department: Sole provider of fire/rescue services for the Town of Weston for over 75 years. Every member is an unpaid volunteer-the Chief, the drivers of the apparatus and all the firefighters. Started in 1931 by a few Town residents, contributions and personal funds totaling $5,800 bought the Town's first fire engine, a 1934 Mack. WVFD is made up of two divisions, Fire Rescue and Emergency Medical Services.

Wilton

Protects an area of approximately 26.8 square miles with a population of 18,000. Wilton has two station stops on the Danbury Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, Wilton Center and Cannondale. Wilton is located about 50 miles (80 km) northeast of New York City. 24-hour fire, rescue, emergency medical service, and hazardous material mitigation from two fire stations. Station 2 is at located at 707 Ridgefield Road (CT RT. 33), North Wilton. Both stations are staffed with career Firefighter/EMT's augmented by volunteers.

Woodstock

The Town of Woodstock has a population of 7,200 spread across 61.8 square miles. It is protected by three fire departments, the Woodstock Volunteers FD in South Woodstock, the Bungay Fire Brigade in West Woodstock, and the Muddy Brook FD in North & East Woodstock. The town is mostly rural with a large agricultural base.

Muddy Brook Fire Department Serving the residents of North & East Woodstock Connecticut since 1934. The North side of the department's response district borders Southbridge, MA and its East side borders Thompson, CT.
