Join in the fun as we welcome Dragon Boat Racing back to Norwich. Bragging rights are up for grabs! 28 teams consisting of 21 people (20 paddlers and one drummer, who sets the beat for the paddlers) will race in the Norwich Harbor. There will also be free entertainment for the whole family, children's activities, two live bands and plenty of food.

Norwich Semiseptcentennial Celebration Reenactment of Deed Signing with Mohegan Tribe
Royal Mohegan Burial Ground on the corner of Washington and Sachem Streets, Norwich, CT
June 6, 2009 marks the official 350th Birthday of The City of Norwich, CT. To commemorate this occasion, we will be reenacting the original deed signing joining with the Mohegan Tribe at the Royal Mohegan Burial Ground. Cast members will be in period costume and/or full regalia during this event. The format will be: assembling at the site, signing of the deed, partaking in the traditional smoking of the peace pipe, and break bread with all present; visitors, spectators and participants. Church bells will then toll for 15 minutes beginning at 12 noon to signify that the official celebration has begun.

Semiseptcentennial Walking Tour: Falls Mills
Begins at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington Street, Norwich, CT
Led by Norwich City Historian, Dale Plummer along the Heritage Walk that follows the Yantic River to Norwich's old mills through to the Yantic Falls. Dale Plummer will discuss the history of the mills providing a myriad of information including architecture and the hhistory of Indian Leap at the falls. Tour proceeds back to the church via Washington Street.
Free & open to the public.

Join Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel for a walk through areas of Norwich which once were the entire Mohegan Burial ground. Participants will walk from Chelsea Parade South down to Indian Leap, back up to the old burial ground. The tour concludes at the Royal Burial Ground, once covered by the Masonic Temple.

Unity Through History: A Timeline Event
Norwichtown Green, West Town Street, Norwich, CT
Demonstrations and lifestyles of days past. Time periods starting with the French & Indian Wars, spanning the centuries to some of our most recent conflicts will be on display.
There is no place in Norwich more appropriate for an historic timeline event than the Norwichtown Green. The Green is surrounded by many 18th and 19th century structures. The buildings include an old Congregational Church (Norwich's first society), former 18th century taverns, a schoolhouse, and an old black smith shop-most of which are now used as offices and private residences. The green is within walking distance of the Old Burying Grounds. In addition to many historic notables, Old Burying Grounds are also the final resting places of both Hannah Waterman Arnold (Benedict Arnold’s mother), and Samuel Huntington - signer of the Declaration of Independence, President of the United States in Congress Assembled, and Governor of Connecticut.

Norwich Governors: A Tribute to 'Black Governors'

Black Governors across New England were slaves or freemen elected by their African-American peers to represent the African American community between 1749-1856. Over that period of time, Norwich had three Black Governors: Ira Tosset, Samuel "Sam" Huntington (servant of Samuel Huntington) and Boston Trowtrow.
