USA Basketball Women's National Team Qualifies For 2008 Beijing Olympics
September 30, 2007: Valdivia, Chile. A double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds from Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury) highlighted five U.S. scorers in double digits as the USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team (5-0) completed its mission of qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics by crushing Cuba (3-2) 101-71 in Valdivia, Chile. Also scoring in double digits in helping the U.S. capture the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship gold medal were Tina Thompson (Houston Comets) with a game-high 18 points, Katie Smith (Detroit Shock) scored 15, Kara Lawson (Sacramento Monarchs) checked in to add 14 and Candace Parker (University of Tennessee) tallied 12 points. USA Team Set for FIBA Tournament 2007

October 11, 2007: Colorado Springs: USA Basketball today announced an 11-member 2007 USA Basketball Women's Select Team that will compete in the FIBA World League Tournament in Ekaterinburg, Russia, Oct. 22-27. In addition to the USA Select Team, the tournament features seven professional club teams from around the globe, including teams from Australia, China, Cuba, Hungary, Lithuania and Russia. WNBA

Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA): The WNBA is the leading professional basketball league for women. Season runs from May through early September. The WNBA is involved in several projects in the comunity and with children.

National Womens Basketball League

National Womens Basketball League (NWBL): was an organization governing basketball leagues for women in the United States. The league was founded in 1997 and began play in the Fall of that year. The league used to have its own season during the off-season of the WNBA. During the off-season, some WNBA players would play in the NWBL, while some would choose to play overseas. The league ceased operations some time in 2007.
